Team17 employees have reported a series of layoffs as developer Worms and indie game publisher looks to restructure its business. Employees were informed of the changes this Friday at a mandatory general meeting.
Affected team members include those who work on the art and design team as the company increasingly shifts its focus to its publishing side and the external development of its own intellectual property.
Dismissed employees say they have already lost access to internal systems. In a statement released tonight to Eurogamer, a spokesperson for Team17 downplayed the possibility of layoffs, saying that those who have been laid off may qualify for other jobs.
“Team17 Games Label has initiated a reorganization of elements of its studio work business model to better meet the needs of our partners to develop and grow our own intellectual property. This may result in a small number of layoffs, however we have a number of open positions within the Group and we will encourage and support all colleagues who wish to apply.”
Upcoming projects posted by Team17 include the sinister fishing game Dredge, as well as sequels Blasphemous from The Game Kitchen and Moving Out from TSMG Studio. In terms of in-house projects, Team17 has announced Killer Frequency, an action-adventure black comedy slasher, coming this summer to PC and Meta Quest 2.
