Chrome browser will drop support for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1

Google Chrome will drop support for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 with the release of version 110 on February 7, 2023. The browser will continue to work in this OS, but will no longer receive the necessary updates.

“If you’re currently using Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, we recommend that you upgrade to a supported version of Windows so you continue to receive the latest security updates and Chrome features,” the browser’s support page says.

Microsoft will end support for Windows 8.1 on January 10, 2023, and Windows 7 service has already stopped in 2020, however it is still in widespread use. In 2021, the legacy OS audience was over 100 million users.

To receive timely browser updates in the future and to have access to new features, you will need to update the system. The current version of Windows 10 or 11 will not only enable you to use future releases of Chrome, but will also provide a higher level of security.
