On July 14th, gaming journalists, bloggers, and select gamers got access to the World of Warcraft: Dragonflight expansion alpha. The network has already published the details of the “dragon” add-on, screenshots, recordings of the gameplay and the first reviews.
The new Awakening Draktir class turned out to be complex and so complex that Blizzard itself does not recommend it to beginners and even asks experienced players to enter the “Advanced” code word in a special field.
The character editor has changed. For example, the choice of the gender of the character is no longer available – instead of male or female, now only “Body 1” and “Body 2”. Dataminers have already discovered that the range of pronouns will soon expand: “he”, “she”, “it”, “they”, and so on.
According to released gameplay footage, players will be allowed to switch between dragon and human forms at any time. This is necessary to see the character in the new armor, since it is not visible in dragon form.
Awakening Draktyrs rely on ranged combat, and to unleash a powerful attack, they better gather enemies in one place. The class’s special skill is flying in dragon form. Players will even be able to saddle a comrade and ride it to another location. According to reviews, this is the best innovation in World of Warcraft: Dragonflight.
Other features of the alpha version of the add-on include new story missions and locations. For example, a snowy area. Those who have tested Dragonflight note that some of the content is still missing in the game – there are no cutscenes and voice acting, and the dialogues are made in plain text format.
In World of Warcraft: Dragonflight, players will travel to the Dragon Isles, home to a new playable race, the Draktyrs. These are anthropomorphic dragons that can change form from dragon to humanoid and vice versa. The development ceiling will rise to level 70.
The expansion is expected to be released by the end of 2022.
