The sci-fi film starring Adam Driver, 65, is a big hit on Netflix. The film, which was released earlier this year, was included in the list of the most watched films on American Netflix (according to Flix Patrol).
The film tells about the pilot of the spaceship Mils, who, after an unsuccessful mission, makes an emergency landing on the planet. He soon realizes that he is not alone: it turns out that he landed on Earth 65 million years ago, when dinosaurs ruled it. Together with the only survivor named Koa (Ariana Greenblatt), they must try to find a way to escape.
Upon release, the film received very mixed reviews from critics, scoring just 35% on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite praising Driver’s lead role, critics called the film “underdeveloped”, “boring”, and “disappointing”.
However, audiences seem to have taken the film wholeheartedly, showing a much more positive reaction. On Rotten Tomatoes, some viewers shared their opinion that the film was underrated.
“I was thrilled from the start,” writes one, “taking me back to the Jurassic Park days.” Another added: “It’s 90 minutes of greatness. Best performance by Adam Driver.” The critics are not happy.” The third viewer is more diplomatic and states: “If you give this film 1 or 5 stars, then I think you are a little mistaken. He is definitely somewhere in the middle. It’s fun, but the concept is certainly simple.”
“65” overtook Netflix originals such as “The Out-Laws”, “Nimona”, and “Rescue 2” in the top 10 most watched movies in the US. So given the film’s relatively quiet theatrical release earlier this year, it’s great to see it get a second life on the streaming channel. And indeed, there are far worse ways to spend 90 minutes than watching Driver fight dinosaurs.
