Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi has hinted at a possible return to the franchise’s director’s chair. The director will be ready to shoot the fifth film, but only if Chris Hemsworth returns to the main role.
In an interview with Insider, Waititi recalled how he did not expect to see the inscription “Thor will return” after the credits of the fourth film:
“It was a surprise for me. I am not kidding. I was sitting in the cinema and just said: “Oh, damn it. Seriously?”. Even Chris didn’t expect… But of course he’ll be back. He is the best character. I don’t know what will happen next. I’d take another one if Chris would agree. But you need something interesting and unexpected to make you want to continue.”
Waititi, who also directed Ragnarok, noted that he wanted to film the next installment on a modest $5 million budget and make it a road movie in the style of Alexander Payne’s Nebraska.
In its opening weekend, Love and Thunder grossed over $300 million worldwide. In Russia, the picture was not released due to the suspension of the Disney studio. The cast also includes Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson and Russell Crowe.
