Shazam! 2 director David F. Sandberg has confirmed that the DC sequel has been completed. “Finished!” Sandberg tweeted, posting a still of the film’s protagonist. “Now a little time to rest.”
The sequel to Shazam!, set two years after the events of the first part of 2019, will see the Shazam family fully formed as Billy Batson (Asher Angel) struggles to come to terms with his newfound powers as his adult alter ego (Levi ).
The sequel’s antagonists are played by Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu and Rachel Zegler, who portray the daughters of the titan Atlas – Billy & Co. will have to face forces they’ve never faced before.
While Black Adam, who made his big screen debut last month as Dwayne Johnson, has similar powers to Shazam (and says the same line to summon them), the two characters aren’t set to cross paths in DC just yet.
Shazam 2: Wrath of the Gods was originally supposed to release this December, but was pushed back three months to avoid overlapping with the release of Avatar 2. The film will now hit theaters on March 17, 2023.
