“Secret Zone” in NieR: Automata turned out to be a difficult modification

mysterious new secret areawhich has puzzled NieR: Automata fans for the past month, turns out to be an elaborate mod created by a team of modders to showcase their new modding tools.

The hidden area was first “discovered” over a month ago, and users have been puzzled as to why they themselves cannot access the church. And the very fact of the new area was surprising, considering that a year ago the last secret of the game was found, which was confirmed by Yoko Taro himself.

In the past few days, a user has been posting a series of videos showing him walking through an inaccessible door into a winding white corridor. Every video the community was increasingly confused, with some speculating that the user was playing version 1.0 of the game.

Adding to the confusion was the fact that Nier’s modding scene was not considered to be so advanced, certainly not to the point of reintroducing old content into a new area when integrating it into the game.

However, it has now been revealed that the mystery was designed to showcase just that – a new set of open source modding tools that will allow the Nier community to create their own areas. Now it is clear why director and creator Yoko Taro deftly avoided questions regarding this area, understanding what was happening, but not wanting to spoil the modders’ prank.

Today’s stream on twitch of a group called ze34_zinnia showed more frames of the “hidden area” before saying it was a mod.

Over the next few days, we will be releasing new fully open source Blender addons and scripting tools. We have much more for you. DevolasRevenge will release mod files if you want to finally enter the church on your own. Stay tuned for more, especially the upcoming RaiderB mod that’s already in production.

    Map designer DevolasRevenge added:

Thanks to everyone for making the trip. Whether you expected this outcome or not, I hope you enjoyed it. It was never meant to be such a big bang, just to confuse a few people on Twitter.
