Phil Spencer admits it’s been too long since Xbox had a major exclusive

Xbox CEO Phil Spencer admitted that it’s been too long since a major exclusive game came out on the Xbox Series X and S.

Speaking to Same Brain on YouTube, Spencer said he understands why players are frustrated by the lack of major Xbox-only games – last year’s Halo Infinite perhaps – but noted that 2023 will be a big year for the company.

One thing we’ve definitely heard is that we haven’t released what people think is a big game for too long. We can justify Covid and other things, but at the end of the day, I know that people are investing in our platform and want to have great games.

    He continued:

We are looking forward to 2023. We’ve talked about the games that are coming, and those games are well tracked. Getting our first real Xbox games from Bethesda, releasing Redfall and Starfield is going to be a lot of fun.

Forza Motorsport 8 is also expected to release in spring 2023, joining the Xbox lineup for this year and returning to the sim series for the first time since 2017.

However, the current lack of games has been noted in particular following the delay of the aforementioned Starfield – the massive space RPG from the studio behind Skyrim and Fallout – which was pushed back to a later date along with Arkane’s open-world shooter Redfall.

While Xbox has a few console exclusives for this holiday period, like the talking gun shooter High on Life, it might be missing a blockbuster.
