Marvelous Entertainment today shared its financial results for the first quarter of the fiscal year for the period April 1 to June 30, 2021.
Unfortunately, sales totaled 5.319 billion yen, down 1.153 billion yen year on year. Operating income was 780 billion yen, almost half of last year.
This is due to an unfavorable comparison with high sales. Rune Factory 5which performed well in the same quarter of 2021.
Speaking of games released this quarter, we hear that the zombie game Deadcraft did not reach the planned level of sales.
On the other hand, Shinobi Master Senran Kagura New Link for mobile platforms celebrated its 4.5th anniversary in May. The newly introduced playable characters have been well received and the revenue is growing year on year.
The company is still planning to release a new JRPG Loop8 in 2022. The game will be released for PS4, Switch and Xbox One and was announced at the Japanese Nintendo Direct in February.
The company also announced its outlook for the current fiscal year, but also mentioned that several of the new games coming to both consoles and mobile this fiscal year (by March 2021) are new and original, so the financial numbers will be fluctuate depending on how many games become hits.
This is interesting because it could mean that Marvelous might have more up its sleeve that we don’t know about yet, although the wording is, as usual, vague.
