After an extended 20-year tenure, Lawrence Hryb, better known in the gaming community by his Xbox Live gamertag “Major Nelson”, has decided to step down from his position as Director of Programming for Microsoft’s gaming network, Xbox Live.
Hrib expressed his gratitude for the unforgettable trip in a statement:
“After 20 incredible years, I have decided to take a step back and work on the next chapter of my career. Taking a moment and thinking about everything we’ve done together, I want to thank the millions of gamers around the world who have included me in their lives.”
Known for his direct interaction with Xbox customers, the departure of Hrib marks the end of an era. He continued:
“In addition, thanks to the members of the Xbox team for trusting me to have a direct dialogue with our customers. Xbox has a bright future and as a gamer I’m excited to see the evolution.”
Perhaps the most notable aspect of Hrib’s involvement with Xbox was his weekly Major Nelson Radio podcast. The podcast has been a constant source of gaming-related interviews and discussions, direct from the Microsoft Xbox team. Hrib discussed a wide range of topics, from gaming industry ideas to the latest tech gadgets.
In connection with the departure of Khrib, the changes will also affect the podcast. In his statement, Hrib mentioned: “PS The official Xbox podcast will be interrupted this summer and will return in a new format“.
Hryb leaves behind a significant legacy at Xbox, having made significant contributions to the brand’s engagement with the community, transparency, and enrichment of the gaming experience.
