It looks like the PC version of Returnal will have full Steam Deck support.

Based on an update to the Steam database entry for the likely PC version of Returnal, the game will now support the Steam controller as well as the Steam Deck, suggesting an announcement and subsequent PC release is on the horizon. The entry in the database can be seen in the screenshot below.

The listing for the PlayStation 5 exclusive Returnal first appeared on SteamDB in May 2022, codenamed “Oregon”, and featured user tags such as “Online Co-op”, “Third-Person Shooter”, “Bullet Hell”, “Sci- fi” and “Rogue-like”. The tags “Atropos” and “Tower of Sisyphus” deserve special attention.

For the uninitiated, Returnal puts players in the role of Selena Vassos, an astronaut who landed on the planet Atropos in search of the mysterious “White Shadow” signal and got caught in a temporal loop. The game was released for PS5 on April 30, 2021. In the meantime, a free update called Ascension was released on March 22, 2022, which included the ability to co-op multiplayer and a new level called The Tower of Sisyphus.

The game was also listed in the Nvidia GeForce data leak as the latest among the games that will eventually make their way to PC. Putting two and two together, it seems like it’s only a matter of time before Sony and developer Housemarque announce a PC version. The studio is no stranger to PC releases, having previously released Nex Machina on that platform.

Returnal is a psychological horror-themed third-person shooter video game with rogue-like features. Selene is reborn after each death, continuing her cycle of traveling to new places and confronting alien beings with shifting visions in an ever-changing universe.

The game is divided into two halves, each with three biomes. A player is returned to the start of the half if they are knocked out while running. Selena is able to run, and later uses a grappling hook that allows her to get to inaccessible places. The game features a wide range of weapons, ranging from a conventional pistol to an electric pilot. Each weapon has its own traits that can be upgraded to provide improved stats that deal more damage. Selene also has a melee weapon with which she can hit enemies, destroy resource geodes, and destroy barriers.
