Is Fable in development trouble? Playground Games posted a lot of new vacancies

The Playground Games team, part of Xbox Game Studios, is looking for more staff to develop Fable, an unreleased RPG for PC and Xbox.

According to a series of posts posted on Twitter by HervĂ© Gengler, Fable’s lead game designer, the team is looking for a variety of employees for various roles. We are talking about a senior script writer, a senior technical designer, a senior sound programmer, a game animator, a producer, a game designer, a chief artificial intelligence engineer, a senior user interface engineer, a senior game animator, a senior artificial intelligence engineer, and others.

Considering how many positions the team requires, it seems likely that Fable still has a lot of work to do and that it won’t be released anytime soon. In recent months there have been rumors that the game will be cut. In fact, what the rumors were saying was just so-called “scoping”, i.e. the stage of work that decides which parts of the project should be kept and which should be discarded.

This is a normal, necessary and healthy part of game development. I can guarantee you that every single player AAA game you’ve played has gone through this process during development. The main goal of this is to focus the efforts of the whole team on working on a certain view of the project, as well as to create a game on time without the need for rework. Games that have been scaled incorrectly often experience porting and developer crunches, both of which we should avoid.

We hope the team will have something to show next year, because the fans are looking forward to this game.
