Twitter user 0AOXO, who shares leaks from the gaming industry, claims that a rumored release date for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has been leaked. According to them, apparently, the game will go to stores on January 31, 2024.
The date of January 31, 2024 does seem arbitrary for a number of reasons. First, many game pre-order announcements list the release date as the last day of the month. Also, Final Fantasy VII Remake was released on Friday, and it’s unlikely that its sequel will hit stores on Wednesday. Therefore, there is a possibility that the real release date may be a few days earlier – January 26, 2024. The game is currently available to order from the PlayStation Store, with no official release date beyond early 2024.
A former Reset Era contributor Im A Hero Too, who often leaked information about several Japanese games in development, shared details about the release of both Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and the Final Fantasy Tactics remaster before mysteriously disappearing from the forum. According to him, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is scheduled to release in January 2024. He revealed that Zack is being introduced as a playable character, and that Square Enix only showed a small portion of the game.
In addition, he noted that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is a “large” game, although the world map consists of zones that are smaller than Final Fantas XVI. In his opinion, about 50% of the game’s story will take a completely new direction from the 1997 original. According to Im A Hero Too, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is not as “meta” as Final Fantasy VII Remake, but it’s definitely a new direction with a lot of feedback for loyal fans.
