Hooded Horse revealed that Empires of the Undergrowth received a major new update today. Developer Slug Disco Studios has made major changes to the game’s balance, as well as updated campaign levels and improved free play mode.
The campaign is a classic introduction to Empires of the Undergrowth and has been part of the game from the very beginning. Many of the earlier tiers get a TLC round to bring them up to the standards of the later tiers and how they are balanced. The main focus of the changes is food distribution, but some of the giant creatures in the early game have been buffed, and your ants can now climb larger creatures to deal extra damage in the colony’s struggle for dominance.
Apart from the campaign, free play lets you experience the game without a narrative structure and gets a lot of quality of life tweaks to make the sessions even more challenging and dynamic. Key changes to free play include:
- Improved AI colony systems
- New landmarks
- New free play skirmish mode
- New artwork on multiple levels
Empires of the Undergrowth is available in Early Access on PC via Steam, GOG and the Epic Games Store.
