The Azimuth Saga comes to an end in Elite Dangerous. An update next week will put an end to a long story that has been going on since the end of 2020.
Scheduled for August 9th, Update 13 will wrap up the Azimuth Saga story and set the stage for the next big chapter. Since the story has been running since October 2020, and the Odyssey expansion has since been released and added new features, special arrangements are being made for this ending.
“Horizons and Odyssey currently exist as separate versions of the game: 3.8 and 4.0. The latter contains the core code that supports Odyssey content and many improvements added since launch, while the former does not. In order to allow as many players as possible to experience the new storytelling and gameplay elements, we intend to provide all PC players with access to version 4.0 at no additional cost, with no upgrade to Odyssey required. You will still be able to run Elite in version 3.8 if you wish. This option is expected to be available within a few weeks of Update 13, with more details to be released closer to that time.”
This means that all PC players, including those who have never upgraded to Odyssey, should be able to experience the story as well as many features, but Odyssey 4.0 players will be able to get the full experience. 4.0 will be unlocked permanently for all PC players and they will have access to narrative content even if they don’t have all the updates from Odyssey.
The Frontier team plans to allow console players to migrate their accounts to PC soon. Those who can do so will also be able to access new content and keep Access 4.0.
