Dota 2 – The Weekly CourierDota 2 Asia Championships Announced, ESL Genting Drama, VGJ.Thunder Takes Galaxy Battles

    Happy Weekend!

    Dota 2 Championship Invites

Final invites and further details were released for the Dota 2 Asia Championships Major at the Oriental Sports Center in Shanghai, China. As a Valve Major, teams will be battling not only for a $1 million prize pool, but also a total of 1500 qualifying points. The Major, scheduled from March 30 to April 7 will mark the last leg of Pro Circuit events as we lead into TI8. So far, the field consists of 3 Chinese, 2 Europe, and 1 CIS teams, with open qualifiers (Jan 27-30) and Regional Qualifiers (Feb 5-9) right around the corner.

Valve Sides With Community In ESL Genting Streaming Drama

ESL One Genting struck an exclusive broadcasting deal with Facebook, which splintered fans who were used to following Dota esports on Twitch. Facebook’s platform posed several technical issues with streaming, but what was missing most was the familiarity of Twitch’s chat interface and the feeling of being part of a community live viewing an event. A few prominent streamers, such as BananaSlamJamma and Admiral Bulldog, opted to broadcast the games on their own Twitch channels, via the Dota TV client. They were promptly issued with DMCA notices, and the story about streaming rights and bans became more popular than the games themselves. Valve later issued a statement summarily saying that “No one besides Valve is allowed to send DMCA notices for games streamed off of DotaTV that aren’t using the broadcasters’ unique content.”

    VGJ.Thunder Takes Galaxy Battles

China’s VGJ.Thunder swept Evil Geniuses 3-0 in the grand finals at the Galaxy Battles II tournament in the Philippines. Despite losing their Major status revoked and $1 million from Valve for the prize pool, VGJ.Thunder took home $200,000 for the 1st place prize. Though they didn’t gain any qualifying points for the tournament, this was the first premier tournament win for VGJ, elevating their profile in the highly competitive Dota scene.

    QO Takes A Leave

QO announced he was taking a break from Dota. In his statement, QO cited a loss of passion and a lack of energy as reasons for him wanting to temporarily leave the scene, and he thanked his most recent team Immortals. QO’s is perhaps most known for his two year stint with MVP.Phoenix, where him and the team placed 7-8th at TI4 and 5-6th at TI5.

    TNC and 1437 Part Ways

Pizza party concluded 😥. Love 🇵🇭 fans no matter what. TNC will go back to a full Pinoy roster and take a different route. As for me, I have no idea what I will do as of now.

    — Theeban Siva (@1437x) January 26, 2018

After nearly half a year with TNC, 1437 announced on Twitter that the two were going to continue their separate ways. This follows after narrowly missing out on a slate of Minor and Major events. In 1437’s stint with the Pinoy team, they also found brief success, taking home the 1st place in China Top 2017 and 2nd at the MDL Macau Major.

    Tournament Overview:

  • Liquid and Newbee are set for the Grand Finals at ESL One Genting.
  • Thanks for catching up with us. We hope you enjoy your weekend.
