DirectStorage 1.2 benchmark released with GPU decompression

NeoGAF contributor winjer compiled the latest BulkLoadDemo, which now supports DirectStorage 1.2 with GPU decompression. This DirectStorage 1.2 benchmark will give you an idea of what your storage devices are capable of.

As mentioned, the latest Microsoft Bulk Load Demo now supports DirectStorage 1.2. By default, the demo uses GPU decompression. However, according to his GitHub page, you can enable CPU decompression using the “-gpu-decompression” argument. To enable CPU decompression, you must use the custom command line “-gpu-decompression {0}”.

You can download the compiled version of this benchmark from here.

DirectStorage promises to reduce load times across all storage devices. While many assume that this method only works with SSDs, it will also work with HDDs. In principle, everyone will benefit from this.

As previously reported, the PC version of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will be the first game to support DirectStorage 1.2 with GPU decompression.
