Chris Evans reveals what he needs to play Captain America again

Amid his departure from the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Avengers: Endgame, many fans thought this would be Chris Evans’ last big-screen appearance of Captain America. However, there is a small glimmer of hope for those fans who want to see Evans again with the iconic vibranium shield.

Although his contract with the MCU ended a few years ago, Evans is still saving the world with a new Disney project. Evans has narrated a new Pixar film called Lightyear, which tells the origin story of Toy Story character Buzz Lightyear.

At a recent press event promoting Lightyear, Evans spoke to ComicBook. During a conversation about Lightyear, Evans was asked if he would ever return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to reprise his past role as Captain America. Evans said: “This seems to be what people would like to see.” Evans went on to add that he didn’t want to disappoint Marvel fans by not returning to the MCU because “it’s been such a good journey and I’m so happy with it.”

He continued to talk about his past as a beloved hero. However, it seems that returning to the role of Captain America will require something special. “It’s so dear to me. It should be perfect. It would be just scary to rattle something so, so dear to me. This role means so much to me. Therefore, returning to it would not be an easy task,” he said.

Evans’ return to the MCU has been talked about for years. In fact, there were rumors that he would have a cameo in another Marvel Studios movie and not another solo movie. Fans have also called for Evans’ return to be centered around his journey to recover the Infinity Stones, which was not shown in Avengers: Endgame. However, none of these projects have been confirmed at Marvel Studios and they all seem to be pure speculation.

While Evans, ever returning to the MCU would make many fans extremely happy, he still seems to be skeptical of the idea, especially considering that in Avengers: Endgame, his character said a heartfelt goodbye, passing the shield to Sam Wilson (played by Anthony Mackie). While Evans’ return would be “no easy task,” there’s still a chance that, if the story is right, Evans will return to play Captain America again in the far future.
