As 343 Industries prepares to beta test the Halo Infinite co-op campaign, did you know that a Halo VR project was once planned? Details and even concept art and the like have recently surfaced thanks to 343 Industries developer Dan Chosic.
Chosic, Director of Narrative Experience at 343 Industries, recently updated his personal websiteto showcase what could be a Halo VR game codenamed Reverie. Based on the site, it appears that the project never made it past the concept stage (and seems to be planned for Infinite), although there are concept shots and even control configurations outlined. Here are some of them, along with ÄŒosic’s explanation of his involvement with the project and why it didn’t work out.
This page expresses some of the thoughts and concerns we have been trying to solve. It turns out, especially in 2017, there were a lot of difficult challenges to overcome with virtual reality. Most notable is the fact that it was only available to a small group of people.
For me, the biggest problem was not being able to move freely. However, there have been a few examples that have never been published in some of the companies we interviewed that have shown extremely promising results.
Oddly enough, my advantage in this project was that I was quite skeptical about it. I didn’t like 95% of the VR experiences because they weren’t repeatable destinations. It’s cool to do it once and never again. This was what I wanted to solve.
