Android 14 will support satellite communication, but only on Samsung and Pixel smartphones

A Google Pixel FC insider account took to Twitter to reveal one of the most interesting features of Android 14.

According to the source, the system will offer the possibility of sending SMS messages via satellite. The future flagship smartphones Google Pixel 8 and Samsung Galaxy S24 will be the first to receive this option. On the current generation of devices, alas, the satellite communication function will not work due to the lack of the necessary equipment.

Recall that back in September last year, Google Vice President for Android Hiroshi Lockheimer spoke about the introduction of native support for satellite communications in Android 14. Interestingly, this statement followed the announcement of a new satellite connection technology for smartphones, which is being developed by SpaceX together with mobile operator T-Mobile.

It is worth noting that satellite communication support is already implemented in some flagship smartphones, including Huawei Nova 11 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro.
