The six-episode first season of Obi-Wan Kenobi turned into a two-and-a-half-hour movie thanks to one dedicated fan.
The fan film, which you can find online, is directed by Kai Patterson and is his attempt to fix what he considered “easily fixable” in the series and offer his own “artistic interpretation of how these scenes can be stitched together to create what What works best for me personally.”
Patterson decided to take matters into his own hands after seeing the series and not liking what he calls the “awkward pacing, whole scenes that ended up going nowhere, stupid dialogue and directing choices.”
He says he does it out of love for the Star Wars universe and excitement about new content from Lucasfilm.
Patterson cut a lot of short shots from each episode to make things run a little faster, and rearranged some scenes so they fit together better.
Be aware that there are some spoilers below.
Another thing Patterson showcases is how he actually throws his own scenes into the show to make some of the more confusing parts more believable. For example, Patterson created a new scene by collecting clips from old Star Wars films to make the original scene in which Darth Vader lets Obi-Wan Kenobi and his friends leave a bit more meaningful overall.
Another example of how he improved on the original show was cutting out the chase scene with Princess Leia, which was heavily criticized by fans. For those who don’t know, in the first episode of the series, Princess Leia is chased through the woods by two men, idiotically tripping over logs and branches, giving Leia an advantage. Patterson removed those scenes entirely, which most fans will probably be grateful for.
Patterson’s film can be found on the internet, although you’ll have to look it up yourself as he wants to make sure only Disney Plus subscribers watch the film “so it doesn’t look like piracy.” However, it is easy to find, so go and watch if the show disappoints you.
