Undisputed: A Promising Boxing Game with Room to Grow

Developer Steel City Interactive’s latest boxing game, Undisputed, has been put through its paces by Andrew McMahon on the Xbox Series X, with versions also available on PlayStation 5 and PC. While the game shows a lot of promise in its approach to realism and RPG-like mechanics, there are areas where it falls short of expectations.

Realism and RPG Elements

Undisputed shines in its emphasis on realism and the use of RPG-like mechanics to prepare for fights. Players are given the opportunity to truly immerse themselves in the experience of being a professional boxer, making strategic decisions that can impact the outcome of matches. This attention to detail adds depth to the gameplay and sets Undisputed apart from other boxing titles.

Gameplay and Commentary

However, where Undisputed falters is in the fluidity of its gameplay animations and the reactiveness of its commentators. While the game strives for realism, the execution of these elements can feel lackluster and detract from the overall experience. In comparison to classic boxing games like the Fight Night series, Undisputed has some catching up to do.

A Decent Addition to the Genre

Despite its shortcomings, Undisputed still manages to provide a decent experience for fans of the boxing genre. While the realistic fighting may feel a bit dull at times for those seeking quick knockouts, the game offers a solid foundation for Steel City Interactive to build upon in future updates and releases.

Undisputed may not reach the heights of its predecessors, but it serves as a satisfying meal for those hungry for a boxing experience on modern consoles. With some tweaks and improvements, this game has the potential to become a standout title in the genre.
